Republicans Rushing to the Polls; Time for Democrats to DASH!

Have YOU voted yet?  What about your friends, colleagues, neighbors, family members who want to support Kate Marshall?   NOW is the time to early vote.  It's quick and easy.  Find the most convenient early voting location for you by clicking here.  Don't wait another day!

Kate Needs YOU to Pull a Shift...

There's a WHOLE lot more to winning this race for our candidate than voting.  It's all about turnout, folks, and we CAN make a difference.  You can amplify your own vote tremendously by volunteering to pull a shift of Get Out The Vote (GOTV) calls or canvassing from September 10th until the polls close on the 13th.  There will be four shifts each day; at 10 AM, 1 PM, 4 PM, and 7 PM.  Kate needs you, the Party needs you, heck, the country needs you to do a little shift work.  Please call 323- VOTE to sign up for YOUR shift!  Thanks.

Town Hall TONIGHT with
Kate Marshall

Support Kate and the Associated Students at UNR by attending a Town Hall at the Joe Crowley Student Union tonight at 6 PM.  Two other candidates are expected to attend, but the Republican will be ABSENT.  Perhaps because he can't defend the Republican platform that has resulted in enormous cuts to higher education and cut off financial aid to millions of American students?

Doors open at 5; event is in Ballrooms A & B.

We want your unwanted mail!

Are you getting downright despicable mail pieces spewing all sorts of lies about Kate Marshall and her record?  We want to see them!  There's a box right next to the water cooler in the front office here at HQ.  Please drop it off so we can see what the other side is up to.  Thanks!

QUIZ!
Who are the DPWC's generous Affinity Partners?

Easy!  Take a look in the lower left margin of this newsletter.  These are the elected officials, labor unions, and organizations who support your county Democratic Party, the grassroots of our Party structure.

Our goals are to build on the solid foundation of our grassroots-based organization, increase the party’s visibility in our community, keep volunteers engaged to help elect Democrats to office at all levels, and spread the ideals of the Democratic Party.

We couldn't do it without our generous Affinity Partners.  Thanks to you all!

A Special Message from Rudy Viola - DPWC 1st Vice Chair and Vice-President of United Auto Workers Local 2162

The Special Election is more than electing a Representative to Congress. This election is about planting a flag and saying this is what we stand for.

This election is about planting a flag and defending our position on Social Security, Medicare, the Affordable Care Act, and Unemployment Insurance.  We have to let politicians known that these programs are part of the Safety Net to protect Americans when large corporations go rogue and turn our economy upside down.   We have to let politicians know that we won’t let them kick the flag over and dismantle the Safety Net that improves the quality of life for all Americans.

We have to show politicians that we are willing to plant our flag and defend our ideas.  We believe that all Americans should breathe clean air and drink clean water.  We need to plant our flag and say this is what we stand for and we will not back away from this position.

Republicans outnumber us by 30,000 registered voters in CD2.  Our country has been dealt a critical shock with this recession.  Yes, we are outnumbered, but we can forge a new path and we are the pioneers.  Pioneers are always outnumbered by those that are too frightened to push forward.  We can see that with the Tea Party – they want to take our Country back 100 years.

We have to make a stand and plant our flag.  Democrats have always fought against injustice. There is only one thing we have to do – we must win this election because if we lose worse things than a failed economy will happen.  The Republican Party wants to privatize Social Security, turn Medicare into a voucher system, dismantle our public schools, deregulate banks, kill the EPA, and break our unions.

We are outnumbered; we must plant our flag, stand our ground and stand up for what we believe in.  Democrats have to get out and vote.  This is one election you can’t afford to sit out. You have to get your relatives, friends and neighbors to the polls and vote for Kate Marshall.  It’s time for you to plant your flag and stand your ground.

A Message from
Organizing for America

Dear WashoeDems:

I wanted to make sure that you heard about this exciting opportunity to receive community organizing training from the Obama Campaign! Please pass this posting along.

Who:   Dedicated and politically oriented individuals seeking to make a difference in their community.

What:  Obama for America Fall Fellows Program

When:  Early September to Early December

http://my.barackobama.com/Fall-Fellows

This fall, Obama for America is looking for students, recent graduates, and anyone else who believes in the power of community organizing, to help lead our grassroots movement.

The OFA Fall Fellows Program will work directly with communities and volunteer leaders to recruit, train and mobilize volunteers to reelect the President in 2012.  Fall Fellows, who may work part-time (15 hrs/week) or full-time (40 hrs/week), will focus on building teams of volunteers and coordinating outreach activities for potential volunteers in communities and on campuses.  Fall Fellows attending school may build teams of students on their campuses.

Fall Fellows who complete the program will leave with a full understanding of the tools, tactics, and language that organizers use to make change in their communities and elect candidates they believe in.  Candidates for the Fall Fellows program must be enthusiastic about helping to re-elect President Obama and willing to commit a portion of their week to the reelection effort.  Please pass the following link on to all individuals and interested parties regarding this program.
