WashoeDEMS This Week December 29, 2011

A New Year Message from
Senator Harry Reid
As the year comes to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting on everything we’ve done to make a positive difference for families in Nevada and throughout the country.
This year, we’ve seen exactly why our victory last November was so important. Despite the challenges still facing so many families, some in Washington spent 2011 waging their special interest-funded war on the middle class. But they weren’t able to win that war, no matter how hard they tried – your commitment and strength were integral to our strategy of fighting back.
Throughout the coming months, I know I can rely on you to help our strong Democratic challengers like Tammy Baldwin, Shelley Berkley, and Elizabeth Warren, and champions of the middle class like Sherrod Brown and Jon Tester, build the same kind of team that helped us win in 2010.
In fact, that’s my New Year's resolution: making sure that our Senate continues to reflect our Nevada values of hard work, opportunity for everyone, and finding solutions.
I hope that this email finds you well, and that you’ve been able to spend the holidays in the warm company of family and friends.
Best wishes to you and your loved ones in the coming year.

Come Hear Our Washoe County Legislators Present Their New Districts and New Challenges
January Washoe DEMS meeting moved from 1st to 2nd Tuesday
Washoe County's four Democratic Assembly members will be introducing themselves to a whole lot of new constituents in 2012 as a result of a redistricting.
The long-awaited new maps are now final and depict significant changes in district boundaries for Assembly members Debbie Smith, David Bobzien, Teresa Benitez-Thompson and Skip Daly.
Please mark your calendars for January 10th when these legislators and Senator Sheila Leslie join us to talk about the challenges they will face as a result of the new district lines. They will need our help more than ever and we need to be prepared to deliver in a number of ways.
Just imagine the State of Nevada if we don't maintain a Democratic majority in the state legislature...the possibilities are frightening in a state already reeling from a lack of investment in its people and its infrastructure.
Legislators will also share how good attendance at the January 21 precinct caucuses actually helps them, as well.
WHO: Our Washoe County Democratic Legislative Delegation
What: New Districts - New Challenges
When: Tuesday, January 10 (this meeting is instead of the 1st Tuesday of the month)
