WashoeDEMS This Week October 26, 2011
Join Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at the Virginia Demmler Honor Roll Dinner!
It's time to make your reservation now!
The Democratic Party of Washoe County is proud to once again honor our volunteers and supporters at the annual Virginia Demmler dinner on Friday, October 28, at Circus Circus in downtown Reno.
Our honorees this year are the DPWC's volunteer webmaster, Mark Tadder, fundraiser extraordinaire Connie Howard, Central Labor Council President Todd Koch, and
Washoe County Sheriff Michael Haley.
We are very pleased to welcome Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa as our special guest speaker. As a former Speaker of the California Assembly, and now as the leader of the nation's second-largest city, Mayor Villaraigosa has passionately and persistently pursued a progressive agenda. We hope you will help us give him a big Washoe County welcome.
The event also features a fabulous silent auction with season tickets for "Broadway Comes to Reno" at the Pioneer Theater, Lunch with Legislators, original artwork and jewelry, wonderful wine baskets, and much more!
Attendees are advised that Circus Circus is also hosting a safe Halloween night on the same night, so parking and access from the Circus Circus parking garage may be congested. You're advised to use valet or park at the Silvery Legacy or El Dorado garage.
It's time NOW to purchase your tickets at www.washoedems.org. We look forward too seeing you at the dinner!

Active volunteers with the Democratic Party of Washoe County, the State of Nevada, and Organizing for America are invited to join Mayor Villaraigosa for a Meet & Greet at 5 PM at DPWC headquarters this Friday, Oct. 28.
A former labor organizer and now one of the most progressive mayors in the country, Mr. Villaraigosa wants to share his message of political activism. Please send an email to ed@washoedems.org if you plan to attend.

Help Us Honor Our Brave Veterans
Please mark your calendars to join the Democratic Party of Washoe County, its affiliates, Nevada State Democratic Party, and Organizing for America in representing the Party in the City of Reno Veteran's Day Parade Friday, Nov. 11.
The theme this year is "Honoring Women in the Military."
Every day Americans enlist to serve in our all-volunteer forces, and when they do, as Senator Harry Reid has said, the rest of us make an implicit agreement with those men and women that we will never forget the service they have given nor will we fail to provide the benefits they have earned.
We will gather about 10:30 AM; the Parade starts at 11.
We look forward to a big turnout of Democrats on Veteran's Day. Watch this newsletter for more details.
Walk with the Carson City Democrats or Congresswoman Berkley in the Nevada Day Parade this Saturday
The Carson City Democrats are inviting Washoe DEMS to join them in the Nevada Day Parade this Saturday, October 29th. The parade route is 1.3 miles...hundreds of Nevadans will be watching! The theme of the Carson Dems float is "Keep Nevada Blue"...so all walkers are encouraged to wear blue!
The float is in parade Division 6, entry number 106, staging on West Adams St. (one block south of Long St.) The line up time is 9:30.
Or watch for Congresswoman (soon to be Senator!) Shelley Berkley and walk with her to celebrate Nevada Day!
It's a Farewell Potluck for Tom Hamilton
Tom Hamilton, regional field director for OFA, is leaving the Reno office at the end of the month, so it's time for a party!
The fond farewell is 4 PM, Saturday, October 29, at Party Headquarters at 1465 Terminal Way, Suite #1, in Reno. It's a Halloween/ZOMBIE theme, so dress appropriately and brace yourself! Bring your favorite dish and photos of Tom for the scrapbook.
Please RSVP to ofa-kris@att.net.
